Ava Spece, President and CEO of Workhouse Arts Center, has focused throughout her executive career on community-oriented programs. Her experience includes the leading the Visual Arts Center of Richmond and before that, the DC Youth Orchestra. Raised by a painter/sculpture/educator, Spece began her career as an arts educator in public schools. She is regular guest speaker for arts management courses at numerous institutions. Recently, Spece spearheaded the campaign to pass state legislation to create the NOVA Arts and Cultural District that includes the Workhouse Center site in Fairfax County, Virginia as well as the town of Occoquan and the Occoquan Regional Park in Prince William County, Virginia.
Jaynelle C. Hazard, exhibition manager at Workhouse Arts Center, has pursued an internationally oriented career in contemporary art. Hazard has managed the corporate contemporary art collection at the Union Bank of Switzerland, worked with Blank Projects, a contemporary art gallery in Cape Town, South Africa, and curated installations at Art Basel Miami Beach. She recently relocated to Washington from New York after earning an MA degree at Sotheby's Institute of Art.
