BreakfastTable with Aimee Fullman
Aimee Fullman, Program Director of George Mason University's Arts Management program, discussed her cross-disciplinary path to her current position. Fullman began at the Institute of International Education, focusing in international cultural conflict and policy. Along the course of her career in the arts, this experience developed into an interest in returning to education, where Fullman could learn from students as a teacher, researcher, and as a practicing administrator.
During her first year as the Director of GMU's program Fullman has placed the combination of practice and theory at the center, epitomized by the "Art in Society" class. Fullman explained that she views art through this societal lense, as access, innovation, and presentation all act as an ecosystem. A required internship develops experiential focus within the program, as students are prepared to manage an organization in any context. Fullman believes that nontraditional and interdisciplinary degrees prepare students to be leaders.
